The North Goa Police will now put you in jail if you caught drinking in public places as police has launched crackdown after a meeting among shack owners, representatives from the tourism sector and officers of Goa's Calangute Police Station. Giving details, Police Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Karthik Kashyap said he had asked his officers to take into custody those found drinking in public under Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The decision came following complaints of broken glass and bottles being strewn on Goa's tourist beaches making them unsafe for tourists and locals.
